Your teeth are as individual as you are and therefore every whitening treatment will achieve a slightly different result. During our initial consultation White(n) can provide you with a treatment option aimed to achieve your desired outcome, however the final result is influenced by a range of factors unique to each patient.
We are able to safely use the strongest whitening products available. Beauticians, other unqualified 'technicians' and supermarkets are limited to a very mild 6% strength gel which requires repeated visits (and costs).
If you would like to aim for even whiter, an additional treatment or use at home gel is safe to do and available at an additional cost.
No.
Teeth Whitening is an unregulated industry.
A Dental Nurse may have watched their employer whiten teeth but they are not allowed by law to touch or administer anything onto someone elses teeth. They are not registered, not under the regulating Medical Practitioners governing body AHPRA, and may not be covered by insurance.
There are certified day courses available that can be completed but this is not compulsory. Dental Nurses and beauticians can only use 6% hydrogen peroxide which i the same as you can buy yourself over the counter. This will dehydrate the tooth and give a white appearance, disguise light staining only for a short period of time, hence having to repeat the treatment often 6 weekly.
Whitening gels can cause chemical burns when not used correctly. It is important to seek professional care for safe and lasting results using TGA approved medicaments.
The long term effects of tooth whitening depends on how you look after your new smile. No whitening treatment is permanent, the same factors that have contributed to your current teeth colour will eventually lead to some discolouration over time.
After the whitening treatment it is natural for the teeth colour to regress somewhat in their shading over time. This should be very gradual but it can be accelerated by exposing the teeth to various staining agents. Treatment usually involves wearing a take-home tray or repeating the whitening treatment to lift the shade up again.
White(n) will given you tips on how to keep your smile looking white and remember to visit your Dental practice to maintain your oral health and remove surface staining.
A range of top-up treatment options are also available.
Yes, sensitive teeth can be whitened successfully. We use a specific formulation designed for this. White(n) Oral Care can provide you with preventative ideas you can do prior to your whitening visit to relieve the sensitivity before, during and after treatment. We can also advise you on the likely causes of your sensitivity and methods to control the sensitivity so you can still enjoy your ice cold drinks this summer.
If you're unhappy with the colour of your teeth, even after your regular dental hygiene visit, then whitening is a great option for you. Teeth whitening is a very successful, safe procedure which is why it is so popular.
Yellow teeth are the easiest and best shade to work with. Teeth can also have grey or brown tones which are slightly more difficult. Whatever shade your teeth are, we will be able to lighten them. If you have tetracycline staining, this may require a few repeat visits to achieve a result.
If you are considering a ‘smile makeover’ with your dentist involving crowns, resin or porcelain veneers or fillings, often it is best to lift the shade of your teeth with whitening so the darker tones don't shine through and the new work will match the lighter shade of your teeth.
As we age, our teeth naturally darken. Whitening can work wonders to lift your smile (and take a few years off at the same time) Whitening is suitable and safe for ages 16-99.
There is a small number of individuals where tooth whitening is not recommended. These are:
White(n) employ only University qualified dental professionals that have the scientific knowledge to assess the health and structure of your teeth. We use whitening gel strengths and brands only available to Registered dental professionals. These are not available to the public or beauticians. An assessment prior to treatment is needed to gather essential medical and dental information that can help us choose the correct treatment for you.
White(n) will come to you in the comfort and convenience of your own home.
By law, people such as beauticians, dental nurses and shops can only sell or supply up to 6% HP, This weaker solution will achieve tooth 'brightening' only. Whereas White(n) is able use up to 38% HP or 44% CP providing a huge permanent difference in results. This is true tooth 'whitening'.
These weaker solutions of 6% HP or less, are great for complimenting your initial whitening result.
Only a registered Dental Practitioner can actually touch and apply medicaments to your teeth. It is a reportable offence if anybody else is found to be doing this. Correct teeth whitening is a 'Dental procedure" not a 'beauty procedure" as it is making a permanent change to the tooth enamel.
There are many teeth whitening kits available on social media, however many don't provide noticeable results. It is common for a weaker solution to only decolourise your staining, however the actual stain remains on the surface of your tooth and will quickly discolour again. In these cases ongoing repeat treatments are needed and are unlikely to provide a satisfactory result. Other products are too abrasive and will lead to long term sensitivity and damage to your teeth.
We are all well aware of influencers and scammers. Some unregulated products have been known to cause significant burns to your lips and gums and permanently damage your tooth structure. Please ensure you make informed choices and only use Australian TGA approved products.
White(n) uses a range of well researched professional products only available to AHPRA registered dental practitioners, to tailor your experience and result.
White(n) uses Australian brand Pola by SDI and also Beyond products.
For Home Visit whitening, we use either 38% Hydrogen Peroxide or 44% Carbamide Peroxide for a sensitive teeth option. These are tailored to suit the individual and the result desired.
For the Home Visit whitening and Express Refresh, a strong professional LED light will be used to activate the whitening gel, this will enhance the gel for faster, effective treatment. This light is sourced from a reputable dental company that only supplies dental professionals.
For White(n) yourself, I can supply gel strengths to you up to 9.5% Hydrogen Peroxide or 16% Carbamide Peroxide. Non dental businesses are limited by law to only 6% Hydrogen Peroxide that achieves a slightly lighter result that won't last and likely to require ongoing visits.
Professional teeth whitening aims to safely change the actual shade of your enamel and is not detrimental to the health of your tooth.
Any potential concerns will be discussed.
Your gums and lips will be completely covered before we start the application. On occasion, the gel may come into contact with the skin and a mild tingle can be felt. A white patch on the gum may be seen following the treatment but this will naturally fade within minutes.
Teeth sensitivity is a common side effect from whitening treatment. The gel used by White(n) has been carefully selected and contains a proven desensitiser, so sensitivity is rarely an issue.
After your treatment, your teeth will be slightly dehydrated potentially resulting in white spotting that may not have been visible before. These marks may be seen for 24 hours but will then blend as the tooth rehydrates.
Please note: We can only perform whitening if your gums are in tip top condition. It is best to have had a recent professional dental examination, clean and polish to ensure you receive optimal results.
If you are not feeling well, or have an active cold sore on your lip, you will need to reschedule.
White(n) has the capability to visit clients at home in the inner northern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne and nearby. Please ask via the enquiry form as we can often travel further particularly if more than one person would like to join in the session. Occasionally there may be a small additional charge to cover travel expenses if travelling further.
We all are in these evolving times. If you are not sure about inviting White(n) into your home, we can also set up in the privacy of your garden or verandah for fresh airflow. If you do not have somewhere to lie, I can bring a reclining chair along. Just ensure we are protected from the weather with a powerpoint and extension cord handy.
The visit is of course kept hygienic as infection control is paramount at all times.
Please read our COVID-19 information.
When we have determined the ideal option for you, we will:
